Curentul reports that the Romanian Academy and the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) have prepared a joint open letter to the presidential candidates asking them to state their opinion on the Rosia Montana area, which they see as seriously threatened by opencast gold mine projects developed by the Gold Corporation. Chairman of the Academy Ionel Haiduc and Chairman of the Romanian ICOMOS National Committee are urging the candidates to state themselves 'publicly, firmly and explicitly for the defence, protection and capitalisation on the exceptional natural and cultural heritage of Rosia Montana as a symbol of the entire cultural heritage of the country for which presidency you are running.' ENDS.
