Gabriel Resources quest for unconstitutional law provisions

12. December 2013 - In a press conference that took place today in Bucharest, the Alburnus Maior and Salvați Bucureștiul Associations have presented the abusive and unconstitutional provisions proposed by the latest trail to modify the Mining Law. The new bill was rejected in the lower chamber of the Romanian Parliament, as the 160 votes for were insufficient to adopt an organic law.

Parliament rejects amendments to Romania’s mining law designed to kick-start Rosia Montana Bucharest/Romania – After lengthy debates inside parliament and widespread demonstrations throughout the country, Romania’s deputies today rejected a series of amendments designed to kick-start the hugely unpopular Rosia Montana mine development. This decision presents an unprecedented victory to Romania’s civil society and a heavy if not mortal blow to Gabriel Resources, the mine project owner.

3. December 2013 - Yesterday, the Romanian Senate debated and voted the proposal initiated by the Government that would amend the current Mining Law. Proposal L 304/2013 was rejected by the Senate in the absence of the needed number of votes. The law is now sent to the Chamber of Deputies, which is the decisional chamber.

28. November 2013 - The Government is again planning the destruction of Rosia Montana and advances a new law proposal to boost cyanide mining in Romania. The law proposal registered under no 304/2013 wishes to modify the current mining law no.85/2003 in the sense that all mining activities by private companies are considered of public utility.

The Romanian Senate rejected the Rosia Montana bill

19. November 2013 - The Senate rejected today the bill on Rosia Montana, as passed by the Government, informs the Romanian press agency Mediafax. The Senate adopted its rejection by 119 votes to 3 with six abstentions,  voting the Report submitted by the Rosia Montana special parliamentary commission. The Senate is the first hearing room, the Chamber of Deputies being the decisional Chamber.
