Roşia Montană, 4. February 2016 - On 6 February 2016, when celebrating 1885 years since the first documentary evidence of Roşia Montană, Alburnus Maior and Asociaţia Bucureşti associations invite you to the sixth edition of Roşia Montană Day. The event is organised in eleven cities and aims to lay the foundation of a practical development plan for the town through the open workshops and the structured discussions, which will be the core of this year's event.

On 6 February 2016 Roşia Montană celebrates its 1885th anniversary, being the oldest mining town in Romania; its Roman name, Alburnus Maior, is first mentioned on the waxed tablet no. 18, dated 6 February 131.

On this occasion Alburnus Maior and Asociaţia Bucureşti organise Roşia Montană Day for the 6th consecutive year in eleven cities: Roşia Montană, Brăila, Bucureşti, Chişinău, Cluj-Napoca, Constanţa, Iaşi, Sibiu, Slatina, Târgovişte, Timişoara. The events organised in each city will include workshops, discussions about heritage protection and valorisation, films, exhibitions, concerts by local artists and other activities. The full programme is available on http://ziuarosieimontane.ro

After 16 years of struggle we celebrate Roşia Montană looking to the future. Through the open workshops and structured discussions which will form the core of this year's events we aim to lay the foundation of a practical development plan for the town. We propose three main topics:

1. definitive abandonment of the monoindustrial mining perspective;

2. introducing Roşia Montană in UNESCO World Heritage, an essential impetus for the area's development;

3. driving local policies towards accessing non-reimbursable European funds for heritage and environmental protection, for infrastructure development and for developing local entrepreneurship in agriculture, tourism and small enterprises.

Roşia Montană hosts one of Romania's most important historical places which preserves exceptional vestiges certifying the evolution of mining operations during an exceptional time frame - from pre-Roman to contemporary times: seven kilometres of Roman galleries, more than eighty kilometres of medieval and modern galleries, an exceptionally preserved mining town from pre-industrial times and hydrotechnical works. In addition the antique waxed tables found in its underground galleries in the 19th century are one of the main sources of Roman Law. All these characteristics of the mining landscape at Roşia Montană make it a historical monument worth to be part of UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.

Roşia Montană Day is held on 6 February 2016, with some events also held the following day in some cities. Entrance is free for all events. The detailed programme and the poster are available on http://ziuarosieimontane.ro
