February 2015 - Alburnus Maior together with Bucureşti Association are pleased to announce the tourist offer “Visit Rosia Montana - 2015" and to invite supporters of the Save Rosia Montana Campaign to spend their May Day holiday (1 – 4 May) in this place in the Apuseni Mountains. Local people in Rosia Montana will welcome those willing to spend four days of trekking and fun - participants will be accommodated at agro-tourism guest houses opened by the locals who believe in alternatives to cyanide mining.
The 2015 tourist season will open at Rosia Montana with the May Day holiday. Tourists will have the opportunity to visit the famous Roman underground galleries, historical sites, natural monuments and the highest mountain peaks surrounding the town. In the evening local people from Rosia Montana will recount legends of the place and will speak about their 15-year fight to protect the community from the cyanide open pit mining.
The vacation includes daily guided tours at the most important and representative natural and cultural heritage objectives: the Village Tour, the History Tour, the Church Tour, the Natural Monument Tour, and the Panoramic Tour. The attractions to be visited include pre-Roman and Roman mining works, unique worldwide, Piatra Corbului (the Raven's Stone) and Piatra Despicata (the Split Stone) natural monuments, the Sphinx of Rosia Montana, the traditional fair and the historic monument churches. Activities with the local community are also part of the holiday programme: tales around the fire and films with and about people in Rosia Montana.
"The early bird gets the jam!" Participants who register until 1 March will be offered a complimentary jar of jam made in Rosia Montana. They can chose between rose hip, cherry, strawberry, sweet cherry, apricots, blue berry, blackberry and raspberry.
"Visit Roşia Montană" is one of the initiatives of Alburnus Maior and Bucureşti Associations, aiming to promote tourism in Rosia Montana as a sustainable alternative for the region's development. The "Visit Roşia Montană" tourist offer is valid for 1-4 May 2015. The package includes accommodation and meals at local people, daily-guided tours, recreational activities, and the cost is 245 lei.
